Men are more likely to engage in casual sex from "summary" of Why Men Want Sex and Women Need Love by Barbara Pease,Allan Pease
Men are more likely to engage in casual sex. This is because men have a higher sex drive due to higher levels of testosterone. Testosterone is the hormone responsible for sexual desire in both men and women, but men typically have ten to twenty times more testosterone than women. As a result, men are more likely to seek out sexual encounters, even if they are not looking for a long-term relationship. In addition, men are biologically programmed to spread their seed and reproduce with as many partners as possible. This is known as the "sperm competition theory," which suggests that men are driven to have sex with multiple partners in order to increase their chances of passing on their genes. Therefore, casual sex may be more appealing to men as it allows them to fulfill this biological imperative without the commitment of a long-term relationship. Furthermore, societal norms and expectations also play a role in men's likelihood to engage in casual sex. In many cultures, men are encouraged to be sexually assertive and to pursue multiple partners as a sign of masculinity. This can create pressure for men to engage in casual sex in order to conform to these gender norms and expectations. On the other hand, women are typically more selective when it comes to choosing sexual partners. This is because women have a limited number of eggs and a higher investment in reproduction, as they are the ones who carry and nurture the offspring. As a result, women are more likely to seek out long-term relationships where they can ensure the well-being and security of their potential offspring.- The combination of biological factors, societal norms, and reproductive strategies contributes to the likelihood of men engaging in casual sex. While both men and women are capable of enjoying casual sex, men may be more inclined towards it due to their higher sex drive, biological imperative to spread their seed, and societal expectations regarding masculinity and sexual assertiveness.
