Nonverbal cues can convey more than words from "summary" of Why Men Don't Have a Clue and Women Always Need More Shoes by Barbara Pease,Allan Pease

Nonverbal cues are a powerful form of communication that can convey more than words alone. In fact, research shows that up to 93% of communication is nonverbal, leaving only 7% to be conveyed through words. This means that the way we stand, move, gesture, and even our facial expressions can speak volumes about how we truly feel or what we really mean. When it comes to relationships, nonverbal cues play a crucial role in understanding one another. For example, a simple touch on the arm or a warm smile can convey warmth, affection, and support without the need for words. On the other hand, crossed arms, a furrowed brow, or avoiding eye contact can signal defensiveness, anger, or discomfort. Men and women often interpret nonverbal cues differently, which can lead to misunderstandings and miscommunication. For example, a woman may perceive a lack of eye contact from a man as disinterest or dishonesty, while the man may simply be unaware of the significance of maintaining eye contact in that situation. In addition, nonverbal cues can also reveal when someone is lying or being deceptive. Microexpressions, gestures, and changes in body language can all indicate when someone is not being entirely truthful. This is why it's important to pay attention to not just what someone is saying, but also how they are saying it.
  1. Nonverbal cues are a crucial aspect of communication that can provide valuable insights into how others are feeling, what they are thinking, and even their true intentions. By being aware of and interpreting these cues effectively, we can enhance our understanding of others and improve our relationships.
