Conflict resolution strategies differ between genders from "summary" of Why Men Don't Have a Clue and Women Always Need More Shoes by Barbara Pease,Allan Pease

Men and women have different ways of dealing with conflicts. When a man hears a problem, he immediately thinks of a solution. He sees the issue as a puzzle to be solved, not necessarily something to discuss at length. In contrast, a woman prefers to talk about the problem and express her feelings about it. She wants to feel understood and supported before moving on to finding a solution. Men tend to avoid conflicts because they see it as a threat to their status and authority. They would rather keep quiet and hope the issue resolves itself. Women, on the other hand, see conflicts as an opportunity to strengthen their relationships. They are more willing to address the problem head-on and work towards a resolution. When it comes to communication during conflicts, men are more likely to use logical reasoning and be direct in their approach. They focus on facts and figures, trying to get to the bottom of the issue quickly. Women, on the other hand, are more emotive and tend to use language that expresses their feelings. They want to explore the emotional aspects of the conflict and understand each other's perspectives. Men and women also have different ways of expressing anger during conflicts. Men may become more aggressive and raise their voices, trying to assert dominance. Women, on the other hand, may become more passive-aggressive or use sarcasm to express their displeasure. These differences in communication styles can lead to misunderstandings and escalate conflicts if not addressed properly.
  1. Understanding the differences in conflict resolution strategies between genders can help improve communication and strengthen relationships. By recognizing and respecting each other's preferred approach to conflict resolution, men and women can work together to find common ground and resolve issues effectively.
