This is especially true for Black students, who may feel more comfortable and understood when surrounded by those who have faced similar challenges and discrimination. In a society where racism and discrimination are pervasive, finding a sense of belonging and understanding is crucial for mental and emotional well-being. Black students may feel a sense of isolation and alienation in predominantly white spaces, where their experiences and struggles are often dismissed or misunderstood. Sitting together in the cafeteria or forming social groups with other Black students allows them to connect with peers who can relate to their experiences of racism, microaggressions, and marginalization.
