Death is inevitable from "summary" of When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi

As a doctor, I had spent years grappling with the reality of mortality. It was a fact of life that I saw every day in the faces of my patients. Death was not some distant concept, but a tangible presence in the hospital wards. It was a reminder of the fragility of life, the impermanence of our existence. Despite all our advances in medicine, there was one thing that remained unchanged - the inevitability of death. No matter how hard we fought, how much we tried to stave off the inevitable, death always won in the end. It was the great equalizer, cutting across all boundaries of age, race, and wealth. In my own battle with cancer, I came face to face with this harsh reality. No amount of knowledge or skill could change the outcome. I was forced to confront my own mortality in a way that I had never imagined. It was a humbling experience, a stark reminder of the limits of human agency. But in the midst of this struggle, I also found a sense of peace. I realized that death was not something to be feared, but a natural part of life. It was a reminder to live fully, to appreciate each moment we were given. In accepting the inevitability of death, I found a renewed sense of purpose and meaning. Death may be inevitable, but how we choose to face it is up to us. We can either let it consume us with fear and despair, or we can embrace it as a part of the human experience. In the end, it is not the fact of death that defines us, but how we choose to live in the face of it.
