The feeling that we call "I" is an illusion - albeit a very compelling one. This sense of self is constructed by the mind and is constantly changing, yet we tend to believe in its stability and permanence. This illusion of the self is the source of much unnecessary suffering. When we identify too closely with this constructed self, we become attached to our thoughts, emotions, and desires. We cling to the idea of a separate and enduring self, causing us to suffer when this illusion is inevitably shattered. This attachment to the self leads to a range of problems, such as anxiety, depression, and conflict.
