Hope for a better future from "summary" of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

In Maycomb, there was a sense of longing that seemed to hang in the air, a yearning for something better, something brighter. People whispered about the possibility of change, of progress, of a future that held promise and hope. Despite the darkness that sometimes shrouded the town, there was a flicker of light that refused to be extinguished. Atticus Finch embodied this hope for a better future. He believed in the inherent goodness of people, in justice and equality for all. His unwavering faith in the possibility of a world where prejudice and ignorance were replaced by understanding and compassion inspired those around him. Even in the face of overwhelming odds, he never wavered in his belief that tomorrow could be better than today. Scout and Jem, too, were caught up in this wave of optimism.
