Empathy and understanding from "summary" of To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

In Maycomb, it is often difficult to understand others unless you climb into their skin and walk around in it. This notion is vividly portrayed through the character of Atticus Finch, who exemplifies empathy by encouraging his children to see things from another person's perspective.
