She becomes disconnected from her former self from "summary" of The Way I Used to Be by Amber Smith

As time passed, something inside me changed. I could feel it, like the slow unraveling of a tightly wound thread. It was as if I was watching myself from a distance, observing the person I used to be with a sense of detachment. The girl who once felt so familiar, so sure of herself, now seemed like a stranger to me. I tried to hold on to who I was before, to cling to the pieces of my old self like shards of a shattered mirror. But the more I tried, the more it slipped through my fingers, slipping away like sand in an hourglass. I felt like I was losing myself, like I was disappearing into the shadows of my own mind. Every day, I woke up a little different, a little further removed from the girl I once was. It was like I was shedding my skin, leaving behind the person I used to be in favor of someone new, someone unrecognizable. I tried to fight it, to resist the change that was overtaking me, but it was like trying to hold back the tide with my bare hands. And as I became more disconnected from my former self, I realized that maybe it was necessary. Maybe I needed to let go of who I was in order to become who I was meant to be. Maybe this transformation, this shedding of my old skin, was the only way to truly grow and evolve. It was a painful process, a lonely journey, but it was a journey I had to take. So I let go. I let go of who I used to be, of the expectations and assumptions that weighed me down. I let myself drift further and further away from the person I once was, trusting that in the end, I would find my way back to myself. And maybe, just maybe, I would be stronger, wiser, more whole than I ever was before.
