Forgiveness is a form of selfcare. It's a way of taking care of ourselves that can feel surprisingly hard, because it involves letting go of the comfortable, familiar feelings of anger and resentment that have become like old friends. There's a reason why the decision to forgive can be so difficult, and it's because holding onto those negative emotions can feel like a way of protecting ourselves.
