Time traveler explores Morlock's underground lair from "summary" of The Time Machine by H. G. Wells
As I ventured further into the darkness beneath the earth, I could hear the faint scurrying of unseen creatures around me. The air was thick and musty, filled with the stench of decay. My only source of light was the small lantern I carried, casting eerie shadows on the walls of the tunnel.
I pressed on, my heart pounding in my chest as I reached a massive iron door. With a great effort, I managed to pry it open, revealing a vast cavern beyond. The sight that greeted my eyes was like something out of a nightmare - a sprawling underground lair filled with strange machines and intricate tunnels.
I could see the Morlocks moving about in the shadows, their pale eyes watching me with a mix of curiosity and malice. They were a grotesque sight, with their pallid skin and elongated limbs, scurrying about like insects in the dim light.
