Machines have taken over; humanity lost art, culture, and emotion from "summary" of The Time Machine by H. G. Wells

In the distant future envisioned by H. G. Wells in "The Time Machine," machines reign supreme while humanity has regressed into a state of intellectual and emotional emptiness. The Eloi, a race of delicate and childlike beings, spend their days in a languid existence devoid of any meaningful pursuits or ambitions. Without the need to work or struggle for survival, they have lost the drive to create art, develop culture, or experience deep emotions. The Time Traveller, the protagonist of the story, is struck by the stark contrast between the advanced technology of the Morlocks, who live underground and maintain the machinery that sustains the Eloi, and the spiritual and cultural bankruptcy of the Eloi themselves. The Morlocks, who have evolved into a brutish and predatory species, embody the dark underbelly of industrial progress, feeding off the Eloi both literally and figuratively. As the Time Traveller delves deeper into this future world, he uncovers the tragic consequences of humanity's blind pursuit of technological advancement at the expense of its own humanity. The Eloi, once the pinnacle of evolution, have become mere shadows of their former selves, their minds dulled by centuries of leisure and complacency. They have lost touch with their creative impulses, their collective memory, and their capacity for deep emotional connections.
  1. Culture, and emotion in this future society serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of allowing machines to take over essential aspects of human existence. Without the spark of creativity, the richness of culture, and the depth of emotion that define us as human beings, we risk losing our very essence and becoming mere cogs in the machinery of progress. The Time Traveller's journey through time serves as a stark reminder of the importance of preserving our humanity in the face of technological innovation.
