Learning to communicate from "summary" of The Story of My Life by Helen Keller
When I reflect on my journey of acquiring language skills, I am filled with a sense of wonder and gratitude. It was a long and challenging process, but one that ultimately opened up a whole new world of communication and connection for me. In the early days, my teacher, Anne Sullivan, painstakingly spelled out words on my hand, letter by letter, helping me make the connection between objects and the words that represented them. Through this tactile method of communication, I slowly began to grasp the concept that everything had a name, a word that could be used to identify and communicate about it. As I made progress in understanding the link between words and objects, my world expanded exponentially. I was able to express my thoughts, desires, and emotions in a way that was previously unimaginable. Learning to communicate was not just about memorizing words and their meanings; it was about understanding the power of language to bridge the gap between myself and others.
