They believed that we should direct our attention to what is within our control, rather than worrying about things that are beyond our power to influence. This may seem like common sense at first, but it's actually a very radical idea when you think about it. The Stoics believed that there are some things in life that are simply beyond our control. No matter how hard we try, we can't change the past, we can't control other people's thoughts or actions, and we can't predict the future with certainty.
