Technology and modern lifestyle have disrupted our sleep patterns from "summary" of The Sleep Revolution by Arianna Huffington

Technology and modern lifestyle have fundamentally altered our relationship with sleep. The constant stimulation from our devices and the pressures of our fast-paced life have made it increasingly difficult to unwind and fall asleep. Our addiction to screens has become a major obstacle to getting the rest we so desperately need. The artificial blue light emitted by our smartphones and computers disrupts our circadian rhythms, tricking our brains into thinking it's daytime even when it's time to wind down for the night. Moreover, the relentless notifications and emails keep our minds active right up until the moment we crawl into bed. We are constantly on call, always reachable, never truly disconnected from the demands of work and social media. This constant state of "on" leaves us with little time to decompress and relax, making it harder to transition into a restful state. As a result, we find ourselves lying awake in bed, our minds racing with thoughts and worries, unable to slip into the peaceful slumber we so desperately crave. The pressures of modern life have also seeped into our sleep routines, with many people sacrificing rest in favor of productivity. We wear our lack of sleep like a badge of honor, boasting about how little shut-eye we need to function. However, this mindset is not only detrimental to our health but also perpetuates a harmful cycle of sleep deprivation. We push ourselves to the brink, thinking we can outsmart our bodies' need for rest, only to find ourselves struggling to concentrate, irritable, and prone to illness.
  1. We must recognize the ways in which technology and our modern lifestyle have disrupted our sleep patterns. By setting boundaries with our devices, creating a bedtime routine, and prioritizing rest, we can begin to undo the damage caused by our sleep-deprived culture. It's time to make sleep a priority once again, to recognize its vital role in our overall well-being, and to embrace the transformative power of a good night's rest.
