In the media, psychopaths seem to be everywhere. They are portrayed as these larger-than-life figures, lurking in the shadows, ready to strike at any moment. The image of the psychopath has been sensationalized to the point where it seems like they are around every corner, waiting to cause chaos and destruction. This sensationalism has led to a distorted view of what psychopathy actually is. It has become synonymous with violence and evil, when in reality, most psychopaths are not violent criminals. They may lack empathy and have a disregard for the feelings of others, but that does not automatically make them dangerous individuals. By focusing on the most extreme cases of psychopathy, the media has created a caricature of what it means to be a psychopath.
