Maslow's hierarchy of needs is a theory proposed by psychologist Abraham Maslow in 1943. According to Maslow, human beings are motivated by a hierarchy of needs that must be fulfilled in a specific order. At the base of the pyramid are the most basic physiological needs, such as food, water, and shelter, which must be satisfied before higher-level needs can be addressed. Once physiological needs are met, individuals can move on to fulfilling their safety needs, which include feelings of security, stability, and protection. This level of the hierarchy encompasses physical safety as well as financial and health security.
