Life is not about happiness, but about finding meaning from "summary" of The Power Of Meaning by Emily Esfahani-Smith

In today's society, the pursuit of happiness is often seen as the ultimate goal in life. We are constantly bombarded with messages that tell us we need to seek pleasure, success, and fulfillment in order to be truly happy. However, the truth is that happiness is not the be-all and end-all of a fulfilling life. Instead, what we should be focusing on is finding meaning in our lives. Happiness is often fleeting and dependent on external factors that we cannot control. It is a temporary state of being that can come and go with the changing tides of life. On the other hand, finding meaning in our lives provides us with a sense of purpose and direction that can sustain us through the ups and downs of life. It gives us a reason to keep going, even when things get tough. When we prioritize meaning over happiness, we are able to tap into a deeper sense of fulfillment that goes beyond momentary pleasure. This kind of fulfillment comes from engaging in activities that are personally meaningful to us, such as pursuing our passions, helping others, or contributing to something greater than ourselves. Research has shown that people who have a strong sense of meaning in their lives are more resilient in the face of challenges and setbacks. They are better able to cope with stress and adversity, and are more likely to lead fulfilling and satisfying lives overall.
  1. The quest for meaning is what gives our lives depth and richness. It allows us to connect with something larger than ourselves and to make a positive impact on the world around us. By focusing on finding meaning in our lives, we can cultivate a sense of purpose that will sustain us through the inevitable ups and downs of life.
