Insulin is the hormone responsible for regulating the amount of glucose in your blood. When you eat, your body breaks down carbohydrates into glucose, which then enters your bloodstream. In response, your pancreas releases insulin to help move that glucose out of your bloodstream and into your cells to be used for energy. This is how your body maintains stable blood sugar levels. However, insulin also plays a key role in fat storage. When insulin levels are high, your body is in storage mode.
