They begin to treat him as a mere insect from "summary" of The Metamorphosis (Legend Classics) by Franz Kafka,David Wyllie

As time passed, Gregor Samsa's family increasingly viewed him with a mix of fear and revulsion. His once caring and considerate family now saw him as a burden, an unwelcome presence in their lives. They no longer recognized the person he used to be; instead, they saw only the grotesque creature that he had become. Their interactions with Gregor became more strained and distant. They avoided him whenever possible, treating him as if he were little more than a pest to be tolerated. The warmth and love that had once defined their relationships had been replaced by coldness and indifference. Even when they did acknowledge his existence, it was only to fulfill their own needs. They no longer saw him as a member of the family but as a problem to be solved. Their conversations about him were filled with frustration and irritation, as if he were a nuisance that they wished would simply disappear. Despite Gregor's efforts to communicate with them, his family seemed to have lost all empathy and understanding. They no longer saw him as a human being deserving of compassion and respect. Instead, they treated him as if he were beneath them, unworthy of their time and attention. In their eyes, Gregor had been reduced to nothing more than an insect, a creature to be ignored and dismissed. The transformation that had altered his physical appearance had also changed how they perceived him, stripping away his humanity and leaving only a shell of his former self. And so, they began to treat him as a mere insect, a creature to be shunned and forgotten.
