The Metamorphosis is a novella by Franz Kafka, first published in 1915 and one of the author's best-known works. It tells the story of Gregor Samsa, a travelling salesman, who wakes up one morning to discover he has been transformed into a giant insect. Gregor's transformation forces him to struggle with his alienation from his family and society at large. The story also serves as a metaphor for alienation and hopelessness in the modern world. Despite his changed appearance, Gregor's family continues to treat him with kindness and compassion, although they struggle to understand the significance of his transformation. The story ends with Gregor's death, and ultimately serves as a reflection on the absurdity of life and human suffering.
