Stay motivated by finding what works for you from "summary" of The Men's Fitness Exercise Bible by Sean Hyson

To stay motivated, you need to figure out what keeps you going. Some guys thrive on competition. If you’re one of them, challenge a friend to a pushup contest or sign up for a 5K race. Others need variety to keep things interesting. They get bored doing the same workout every day. If that sounds like you, mix it up. Try a new exercise every time you go to the gym or join a sports league to stay engaged. Motivation also comes from progress. If you can see that you’re getting stronger or leaner, it’s easier to keep going. You don’t have to make huge strides every time you work out. Just seeing a little improvement can be enough to get you back in the gym the next day. To track your progress, keep a workout log or take before-and-after photos. They can show you how far you’ve come and remind you that your hard work is paying off. For some guys, motivation comes from setting goals. If you have a target to shoot for, you have a reason to keep going. Your goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. In other words, they should be clear, realistic, and have a deadline. If you want to bench press 225 pounds, write it down and give yourself a timeline to hit that number. Then work toward it every day. Motivation can also come from having a workout partner or trainer. Some people need someone to push them or hold them accountable. If you’re one of them, find a buddy who shares your goals or hire a coach who can help you reach them. Having someone else there with you can make the workout more fun and give you the support you need to keep going when things get tough. Remember, everybody is different. What works for one guy might not work for another. To stay motivated, you need to find what works for you. Try different things until you find something that keeps you going. Once you do, stick with it and watch your progress soar.
