Sol discovers a way to communicate with Earth from "summary" of The Martian by Andy Weir
Sol was working on the Pathfinder probe, which was originally meant to communicate with the Ares 4 crew. He realized that he could repurpose it to send a signal to NASA using the camera. He managed to send a series of hexadecimal codes that spelled out a message, "ARES 3 MISSION WILL SUCCEED." This was the first time he was able to communicate with Earth since the crew left Mars.
Sol knew that NASA would notice the message and hopefully come up with a plan to rescue him. He felt a surge of hope at the thought of being able to contact Earth after so long. The communication was a major breakthrough in his survival mission on Mars.
As Sol waited for a response from NASA, he continued to work on finding ways to extend his food supply and create a sustainable environment in the habitat. The communication with Earth motivated him to push forward and keep fighting for his survival. He was determined to make it back home.
When NASA finally responded to Sol's message, they were shocked and thrilled to hear from him. They immediately began working on a plan to rescue him, knowing that he was still alive and determined to survive. The communication with Earth was a turning point in Sol's journey on Mars, bringing him one step closer to being rescued and returning home.
