Dysfunction from "summary" of The Liars' Club by Mary Karr
The dysfunction in our family was like the weather, it just was. It wasn't something you could escape or ignore, it was always there, hovering over us like a dark cloud. It colored everything we did, every interaction we had, every word we spoke. It was a part of us, ingrained in our very beings. Growing up in a dysfunctional family meant never knowing what to expect. One day everything would be fine, the next day chaos would erupt. It was like living on a rollercoaster, never knowing when the next drop or twist would come. We learned to adapt, to be on guard at all times, to never let our guard down. The dysfunction manifested itself in different ways. There were the fights, the arguments that would escalate into shouting matches, with words being thrown like daggers. There were the secrets, the things that were never spoken of, but hung in the air like a heavy fog. There were the betrayals, the broken promises, the constant feeling of being let down. But despite all of this, there was a strange sense of normalcy to it all. Dysfunction was our reality, it was what we knew. We didn't know any different, so we accepted it, embraced it even. It was our way of life, our family dynamic. Looking back now, I can see how damaging the dysfunction was. It shaped who we became, how we interacted with the world, how we viewed ourselves. But at the time, it was just how things were. We didn't question it, we didn't fight against it, we just lived it. The dysfunction in our family was like a poison, slowly seeping into every aspect of our lives. It was toxic, destructive, but it was also familiar. It was all we knew, all we had ever known. And so we carried on, navigating the chaos, trying to make sense of it all.Similar Posts
