Unconventional therapy from "summary" of The Horse Boy by Rupert Isaacson

The concept of unconventional therapy is at the heart of our journey with Rowan. It is the idea that traditional methods, while valuable in their own right, may not always be sufficient when dealing with complex issues such as autism. It is the recognition that sometimes we need to think outside the box, to explore alternative approaches that may offer new possibilities for healing and growth. Unconventional therapy is about challenging the status quo, questioning assumptions, and being open to new ways of thinking and being. It is about embracing creativity, flexibility, and a willingness to try new things, even if they seem strange or unconventional at first. It is about trusting our intuition, following our instincts, and being willing to take risks in the pursuit of a better life for ourselves and our loved ones. In our case, unconventional therapy took the form of a journey to Mongolia, where we sought out the help of traditional shamans and the healing power of horses. It was a journey into the unknown, a leap of faith into a world that was unfamiliar and sometimes frightening, but also full of promise and possibility. It was a journey that challenged us to let go of our preconceived notions and embrace a new way of being, one that was rooted in connection, compassion, and a deep respect for the wisdom of the natural world. Through our experiences in Mongolia, we discovered the transformative power of unconventional therapy. We witnessed firsthand the healing effects of connecting with nature, of immersing ourselves in a culture that valued community, ritual, and the interconnectedness of all living beings. We saw how the simple act of riding a horse could unlock hidden potentials, release pent-up emotions, and pave the way for new insights and breakthroughs. Unconventional therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution. It is a process of exploration, experimentation, and discovery that is unique to each individual and each situation. It requires courage, patience, and a willingness to embrace the unknown. But for those who are willing to take the leap, who are open to new possibilities and willing to trust in the healing power of unconventional approaches, the rewards can be profound and life-changing.
