Notice your thoughts, but don't let them dictate your actions from "summary" of The Happiness Trap Pocketbook by Dr Russ Harris,Russ Harris,Bev Aisbett
Imagine that you are walking down the street, minding your own business, when suddenly a thought pops into your head. It might be something like, "I'm not good enough," or "I'll never succeed." These thoughts can be powerful and overwhelming, but it's important to remember that they are just words floating around in your mind. It's natural to have all kinds of thoughts swirling around in our heads, but that doesn't mean we have to listen to them. We have the power to choose which thoughts we pay attention to and which ones we let go of. Just because a thought pops into your head, it doesn't mean you have to act on it or believe it. When we start to believe every thought that passes through our minds, we can get caught up in a cycle of negativity and self-doubt. We might avoid taking risks or trying new things because we're afraid of what our thoughts might say. But if we can learn to notice our thoughts without getting caught up in them, we can break free from this cycle. Instead of letting your thoughts dictate your actions, try to take a step back and observe them from a distance. Imagine yourself as a curious scientist, studying the patterns and themes of your thoughts without judgment. By creating this space between yourself and your thoughts, you can start to see them for what they really are: just words and images passing through your mind. You might notice that some of your thoughts are helpful and motivating, while others are unhelpful and destructive. By learning to distinguish between the two, you can choose to focus on the thoughts that serve you well and let go of the ones that hold you back. This practice can help you cultivate a sense of inner peace and resilience in the face of life's challenges.Similar Posts
