Practice forgiveness from "summary" of The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin

Forgiveness is a concept that many of us struggle with. It can be hard to let go of past hurts and resentments, to release the anger and bitterness that we hold on to. But holding on to these negative emotions only serves to weigh us down, to keep us trapped in a cycle of negativity and unhappiness. When we practice forgiveness, we free ourselves from this burden. We release ourselves from the grip of the past and allow ourselves to move forward with a lighter heart and a clearer mind. Forgiveness is not about excusing the behavior of others or pretending that the hurtful actions they took didn't happen. It's about acknowledging what happened, accepting it, and then letting it go. It's about recognizing that holding on to anger and resentment only hurts us, not the person we are angry with. When we forgive, we take back our power. We no longer allow someone else's actions to dictate how we feel or how we live our lives. We choose to move forward on our terms, not on theirs. Forgiveness is a process, not a one-time event. It requires time and effort, patience and understanding. It may not happen overnight, but with practice, it becomes easier. We learn to let go of the past more quickly, to release the grip of anger and resentment more easily. We become more compassionate, both towards ourselves and towards others. We begin to see that everyone makes mistakes, that everyone is flawed and imperfect. And we realize that holding on to grudges only serves to keep us stuck in a cycle of negativity and pain. When we practice forgiveness, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities. We allow ourselves to experience true freedom and happiness. We let go of the past and embrace the present. We release ourselves from the burden of anger and resentment and make room for love and joy. Forgiveness is a gift that we give to ourselves, a way of setting ourselves free from the chains of the past. It is a choice that we make, a decision to let go of what no longer serves us and to embrace what brings us peace and happiness.
