Cultivating selflove is foundational in all relationships from "summary" of The Four Noble Truths of Love by Susan Piver

The foundation of all relationships is not what we might think. It is not about finding the perfect partner, saying the right words, or doing everything just so. It is about cultivating self-love. This may sound cliché or overly simplistic, but it is the truth. Self-love is not selfish or narcissistic. It is not about putting ourselves above others or disregarding their needs. It is about recognizing our own worth, accepting ourselves as we are, and treating ourselves with kindness and compassion. When we cultivate self-love, we are able to bring our whole selves to our relationships. We are not looking for someone else to complete us or make us feel whole. Instead, we are able to give and receive love from a place of abundance, rather than scarcity. We are able to set boundaries, communicate our needs, and show up authentically in our relationships. Without self-love, we may find ourselves seeking validation from others, trying to prove our worth, or constantly comparing ourselves to others. This can lead to insecurity, jealousy, and neediness in our relationships. When we love ourselves, we are able to love others more fully. We are able to see them as they truly are, rather than projecting our own insecurities onto them. We are able to be present, open, and compassionate in our interactions with others. Self-love is not a destination to reach or a goal to achieve. It is an ongoing practice, a daily commitment to ourselves. It requires patience, forgiveness, and self-compassion. It is not always easy, but it is always worth it. When we cultivate self-love, we are able to create deeper, more fulfilling relationships with others. We are able to love without attachment, give without expectation, and connect on a deeper level with those around us.
