White from "summary" of The Disordered Cosmos by Chanda Prescod-Weinstein
White people are not actually white. They are a pinkish beige color. The term "white" is a social construct that has been used to classify people of European descent as a superior race. This construct is built on a foundation of power and privilege that has been used to oppress marginalized groups for centuries. The idea of whiteness has been used to justify colonization, slavery, and genocide. It has been used to maintain systems of oppression that benefit those who are classified as white while disadvantaging people of color. This construct has created a hierarchy of races that places white people at the top and people of color at the bottom. Whiteness is not just a description of skin color. It is a set of beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors that are used to maintain white supremacy. It is a system of power that privileges white people and discriminates against people of color. This system is deeply ingrained in our society and affects every aspect of our lives, from education and employment to healthcare and criminal justice. The concept of whiteness is harmful not only to people of color but also to white people themselves. It creates a false sense of superiority that is built on the oppression of others. It perpetuates racism and perpetuates systems of inequality that harm everyone. To dismantle the system of whiteness, we must acknowledge its existence and work to dismantle it. We must confront our own biases and privileges and work to create a more just and equitable society for all. It is only by dismantling the system of whiteness that we can truly achieve equality and justice for all people.Similar Posts
