Writers must push through selfdoubt from "summary" of The Courage to Write by Ralph Keyes

It's easy to believe that successful writers possess an unshakeable confidence in their abilities. However, the reality is quite different. Most writers, regardless of their level of experience or talent, are plagued by self-doubt. This feeling of uncertainty can be paralyzing, causing writers to second-guess every word they put on the page. It's natural to question whether our writing is good enough, whether anyone will care about what we have to say, or whether we have what it takes to see a project through to completion. We must remember that self-doubt is a common affliction among writers. It's a part of the creative process, a byproduct of putting our thoughts and ideas out into the world for others to judge. Rather than allowing self-doubt to derail us, we must learn to push through it. This is easier said than done, of course. It requires a great deal of courage and determination to continue writing in the face of uncertainty. But it is essential if we are to grow and improve as writers. One strategy for overcoming self-doubt is to simply keep writing. By consistently showing up to the page, we demonstrate to ourselves that we are committed to our craft. We may not always produce our best work, but the act of writing itself is a victory. Each word we write is a small triumph over self-doubt. Over time, these victories add up, bolstering our confidence and helping us to silence the voice of doubt in our heads. It's also important to remember that self-doubt is not a reflection of our worth as writers. It is a natural response to the vulnerability of the creative process. Every writer, no matter how successful, has experienced moments of doubt. What sets successful writers apart is their ability to push through these moments and keep writing. They understand that self-doubt is not a sign of weakness, but rather a challenge to be overcome.
  1. Writers must learn to embrace self-doubt as a companion on their creative journey. It is not something to be feared or avoided, but rather a signal that we are pushing ourselves outside of our comfort zone. By acknowledging our doubts and continuing to write despite them, we can harness their energy and use it to fuel our creativity. In this way, self-doubt can actually become a valuable ally, pushing us to reach new heights in our writing.
