Writers must be willing to take risks from "summary" of The Courage to Write by Ralph Keyes

Writing requires courage. It demands that we put our thoughts and feelings out into the world, knowing that they may be met with criticism or rejection. To be a writer is to take a risk, to expose ourselves to the possibility of failure. But this risk is necessary if we are to create meaningful work. Many writers struggle with the fear of taking risks. They worry about what others will think of their writing, about whether it will be good enough. This fear can be paralyzing, preventing us from fully expressing ourselves on the page. But we must push past this fear if we are to grow as writers. We must be willing to take risks, to step outside of our comfort zones and try new things. Taking risks in writing means being vulnerable. It means putting our true selves into our work, even when it feels uncomfortable. This vulnerability is what gives writing its power. It is what allows us to connect with readers on a deep level, to touch their hearts and minds. Without this willingness to take risks, our writing will be shallow and uninteresting. Of course, taking risks in writing is not easy. It requires us to confront our fears and insecurities, to push past the voice in our heads that tells us we're not good enough. But this is a necessary part of the writing process. We must be willing to be uncomfortable, to embrace uncertainty, if we are to create work that is truly meaningful. In the end, the risks we take as writers will be worth it. They will lead us to new insights, new perspectives, and new ways of expressing ourselves. And they will help us to become the best writers we can be.
