Instead, the capitalists, or bourgeoisie, who own the means of production, exploit the workers for their own profit. This unequal relationship is the foundation of the capitalist system. Because of this exploitation, the proletarians are constantly struggling to make ends meet. They are forced to sell their labor power to the capitalists in exchange for wages that are insufficient to meet their basic needs.
