Four Noble Truths pave the path to enlightenment from "summary" of The Buddha and His Dhamma by Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar
The Buddha taught that life is suffering. Birth is suffering, old age is suffering, sickness is suffering, death is suffering. Not getting what one wants is suffering, getting what one does not want is suffering. In short, the five aggregates of clinging are suffering. The Buddha said that one must understand the nature of suffering if one is to attain enlightenment. The cause of suffering, according to the Buddha, is craving. Craving for sensual pleasures, craving for existence, and craving for non-existence. This craving leads to attachment, which in turn leads to suffering. The Buddha taught that one must abandon craving if one is to attain enlightenment. The Buddha also taught that there is a way out of suffering. This way is the Noble Eightfold Path. Right understanding, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. By following this path, one can overcome suffering and attain enlightenment. The fourth noble truth is the truth of the cessation of suffering. The Buddha taught that by abandoning craving and following the Noble Eightfold Path, one can end suffering and attain enlightenment. This is the ultimate goal of Buddhism, the liberation from the cycle of birth and death.- The Four Noble Truths pave the path to enlightenment by helping one understand the nature of suffering, the cause of suffering, the way out of suffering, and the cessation of suffering. By following these truths and practicing the Noble Eightfold Path, one can attain enlightenment and achieve liberation from the cycle of birth and death.
