Peace of mind comes from letting go of expectations from "summary" of The Book of Joy by Dalai Lama,Desmond Tutu
The idea here is that when we have expectations - of ourselves, of others, of the world - we are setting ourselves up for disappointment. We are essentially putting conditions on our happiness, saying that we can only be content if things go a certain way. But the truth is, life is unpredictable. Things don't always go according to plan. People don't always act the way we want them to. When we cling too tightly to our expectations, we are bound to be let down. Letting go of expectations doesn't mean that we stop caring or stop trying to improve our lives. The Dalai Lama and Archbishop Tutu both emphasize the importance of cultivating a mindset of acceptance and gratitude. When we release our expectations, we free ourselves from the burden of constantly trying to control the world around us. We can appreciate the beauty of life as it is, rather than constantly yearning for it to be different. This doesn't mean that we become passive or apathetic. It means that we are able to engage with life more fully, without being weighed down by unrealistic demands and desires.- Peace of mind comes from a place of inner contentment, rather than external circumstances. It comes from a deep sense of acceptance and appreciation for the present moment, no matter what it may bring. By letting go of expectations, we can find a greater sense of peace and joy in our lives, regardless of the challenges we may face.
