Awareness of impermanence brings freedom from suffering from "summary" of The Beginner's Guide to Insight Meditation by Arinna Weisman,Jean Smith

The understanding of impermanence is a central teaching in the practice of Insight Meditation. When we truly grasp the fact that all things in life are constantly changing, we are able to let go of our attachments and expectations. This awareness allows us to see through the illusion of permanence that we tend to cling to, and instead embrace the fluidity of existence. By recognizing that everything is subject to change, we are less likely to become attached to people, things, or situations. We no longer expect them to remain the same, and therefore do not suffer when they inevitably shift or disappear. This freedom from attachment brings a sense of ease and peace to our lives, as we are no longer at the mercy of external circumstances. Impermanence also teaches us to appreciate the present moment more fully. When we understand that everything is fleeting, we are more likely to savor the beauty and joy that is available to us right now. We become more mindful and present, as we realize that this moment is all we truly have. In letting go of our attachments and expectations, we are able to release the suffering that often accompanies them. We learn to accept life as it is, with all its ups and downs, knowing that everything is in a constant state of flux. This acceptance brings a deep sense of peace and contentment, even in the midst of life's challenges.
  1. The awareness of impermanence allows us to live more fully and authentically. We are able to let go of the past and future, and instead focus on the present moment with an open heart and mind. This freedom from attachment and suffering is the true gift of Insight Meditation, leading us to a more joyful and fulfilling life.
