Throughout my journey down the Mississippi River, I encountered all sorts of people - some kind, some cruel, some generous, some deceitful. Each person I met taught me something new about the complexities of human nature. Take for instance the Widow Douglas and Miss Watson, who tried to civilize me and make me conform to society's expectations. They meant well, I reckon, but their ways felt confining and unnatural to me. Then there was Jim, a runaway slave, who showed me true loyalty and friendship. Despite the risks, he helped me escape and protected me on our journey. Jim opened my eyes to the injustice of slavery and the humanity that exists in all of us, regardless of color or status.
