One of Junior's biggest fears is the fear of failure. Growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation, he is constantly reminded of the limited opportunities available to him. However, rather than succumbing to this bleak outlook, Junior decides to attend the all-white school in Reardan, where he faces ostracism and discrimination. Despite the overwhelming odds stacked against him, Junior refuses to give up, determined to prove to himself and others that he is capable of success. Junior also struggles with feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem, constantly comparing himself to others and feeling like he doesn't measure up. However, as the story progresses, Junior begins to realize his own worth and value, gaining confidence in his abilities and talents.
