The Byzantine Emperor Heraclius was facing a formidable enemy in the form of the Persian Empire. The Persians had already conquered many lands and were now marching towards Constantinople. Heraclius knew that he needed to defend his city at all costs. He gathered his armies and prepared for a long and difficult battle.
