The Caliphate of Abu Bakr from "summary" of Stories of the Prophets (Peace be upon them) by Imam Imaduddin Isma’il Ibn Kathir
After the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) passed away, the Muslim community was faced with the challenge of selecting a leader to succeed him. The companions of the Prophet gathered in a place called Saqifah to discuss this matter. Among them was Abu Bakr, who was a close companion of the Prophet and known for his piety and wisdom. During the gathering at Saqifah, Abu Bakr was proposed as a candidate for the position of caliph. His nomination was supported by Umar ibn al-Khattab, another esteemed companion of the Prophet. Abu Bakr's credentials as a faithful follower of the Prophet and his leadership qualities made him a suitable candidate for the role of caliph. After some deliberation, Abu Bakr was chosen as the first caliph of the Muslim community. This marked the beginning of his caliphate, a period in which he would guide the Muslim community through various challenges and trials. Abu Bakr's leadership was characterized by his commitment to upholding the teachings of Islam and maintaining unity among the Muslims. During his caliphate, Abu Bakr faced numerous challenges, including the Ridda Wars against tribes who had renounced Islam after the death of the Prophet. Despite these obstacles, Abu Bakr remained steadfast in his faith and dedication to the Muslim community. His leadership during this turbulent period was instrumental in preserving the unity and integrity of the Muslim ummah.- The caliphate of Abu Bakr was a significant chapter in the history of Islam. His leadership and devotion to the teachings of the Prophet set a precedent for future leaders of the Muslim community. Abu Bakr's legacy as the first caliph of Islam continues to be remembered and revered by Muslims around the world.
