Creation of Adam from "summary" of Stories of the Prophets by Ismāʻīl ibn ʻUmar Ibn Kathīr

When Allah decided to create Adam, He gathered the angels and informed them of His plan. Allah said to them, "I am going to place a vicegerent on earth." The angels questioned Allah's decision, asking why He would create a being that would cause mischief and shed blood. Allah, in His infinite wisdom, replied that He knew what they did not know. Allah created Adam with His own hands and breathed His spirit into him, making him superior to the angels. Allah then commanded the angels to prostrate before Adam as a sign of respect and honor. All the angels obeyed except for Iblis, who was known for his arrogance and pride. Iblis refused to prostrate before Adam, claiming that he was superior to him because he was created from fire while Adam was created from clay. As a result of his disobedience and arrogance, Iblis was expelled from Paradise and became Satan, the eternal enemy of mankind. Adam, on the other hand, was given the knowledge of all things and was taught the names of everything. Allah placed Adam and his wife, Hawwa (Eve), in Paradise and allowed them to enjoy its blessings except for one tree. Allah warned Adam and Hawwa not to approach the forbidden tree, but Satan, in his deceitful ways, tempted them to eat from it. Adam and Hawwa succumbed to Satan's whispers and ate from the forbidden tree, leading to their expulsion from Paradise. They repented for their mistake and Allah forgave them, teaching them the words of repentance. Adam was then sent down to earth as a prophet, along with Hawwa, where they started a new life. They were blessed with children and descendants who spread throughout the earth. Adam taught his children the ways of righteousness and the worship of Allah, guiding them to be pious and obedient servants. The story of the creation of Adam teaches us about the wisdom of Allah, the consequences of disobedience, and the importance of repentance. It shows us that human beings have the potential for both good and evil, and that it is our choices that determine our fate. By following the guidance of Allah and seeking His forgiveness, we can overcome our shortcomings and strive for righteousness in this world and the hereafter.
