Selfacceptance requires self-compassion and self-acknowledgment from "summary" of Six Pillars of Self-Esteem by Nathaniel Branden

To accept oneself means to be willing to experience oneself, to acknowledge what is, without judgment or condemnation. It means to experience oneself as one's own friend. To accept oneself does not mean to surrender to one's defects, to passively endure stagnation or failure. It means to respect oneself, to treat oneself with dignity, to value oneself. To accept oneself means to respect the right to exist, to pursue happiness, to enjoy the fruits of one's efforts and achievements. To accept oneself is to uphold the right to make mistakes and to learn from them, to uphold the right to personal growth and self-improvement. Self-acceptance entails the exercise of self-compassion. Compassion for oneself does not mean self-indulgence or self-pity. It means to be gentle and kind with oneself, to treat oneself as one would treat a friend, with understanding, patience, and forgiveness. To be compassionate with oneself is to recognize and accept one's feelings, thoughts, and actions without harsh judgment or criticism. It is to acknowledge one's worth and dignity, to affirm one's right to happiness and fulfillment. Self-acceptance also requires self-acknowledgment. This means to be honest and realistic about oneself, to recognize one's strengths and weaknesses, virtues and vices, successes and failures. Acknowledgment is the willingness to face the truth about oneself, to take responsibility for one's choices and actions, to learn from one's experiences. It is the foundation of self-respect and self-esteem, the basis of personal integrity and authenticity.
  1. With all its imperfections and potentials, all its wounds and wonders. It is to embrace oneself as a work in progress, as a journey of self-discovery and self-creation. It is to embrace oneself with love and understanding, with courage and determination. Self-acceptance is the cornerstone of self-esteem, the key to personal fulfillment and happiness. It is the essence of psychological health and well-being, the foundation of a meaningful and rewarding life.
