Detachment from "summary" of Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta - Gita Saar (Hindi) 2020: भाग 6 by पं. रवि शर्मा

Detachment is a concept that is emphasized in the Bhagavad Gita. It means to be free from attachment to the fruits of one's actions. This concept is crucial in the path of self-realization and spiritual growth. When one is detached, they are not swayed by success or failure, pleasure or pain. They perform their duties with a sense of duty, without being attached to the outcomes. Detachment does not mean that one becomes indifferent or apathetic. It means that one does not let their emotions and desires control their actions. By cultivating a sense of detachment, one can maintain inner peace and equanimity in the face of life's ups and downs. This is essential for maintaining mental clarity and focus on the path of self-realization. Detachment allows one to transcend the ego and connect with their true self. It helps one to see beyond the illusion of the material world and recognize the eternal nature of the soul. When one is detached, they can act selflessly and with purity of heart. They are not motivated by selfish desires or personal gain, but by a higher purpose. Detachment is a state of mind that can be cultivated through self-discipline, meditation, and spiritual practice. It requires letting go of attachments to material possessions, relationships, and worldly desires. By detaching oneself from the external world, one can turn their focus inward and connect with their higher self. In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna teaches the importance of detachment to Arjuna, urging him to perform his duties without attachment to the results. He explains that true freedom and enlightenment come from detachment from the material world and identification with the eternal soul. By practicing detachment, one can overcome the cycle of birth and death and attain liberation from the material world.
