The virtues of being honest and trustworthy from "summary" of Sahih Muslim (Volume 8) by Imam Abul-Husain Muslim

Honesty and trustworthiness are two virtues that are highly esteemed in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the importance of these qualities in numerous teachings and hadiths. He taught his followers that honesty and trustworthiness are essential in maintaining good relationships with others and in upholding one's integrity and reputation. Being honest means speaking the truth and being sincere in one's words and actions. It involves being straightforward and transparent in all dealings, whether in business transactions, personal relationships, or everyday interactions. Trustworthiness, on the other hand, means fulfilling one's commitments and responsibilities and being reliable and dependable in all matters. In Sahih Muslim, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is reported to have said, "A person who is not trustworthy has no faith, and a person who does not keep his promises has no religion." This hadith highlights the close connection between trustworthiness and faith, indicating that one's religious beliefs are inherently linked to one's integrity and honesty. Furthermore, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) exemplified the virtues of honesty and trustworthiness in his own life. He was known as "Al-Amin" (the trustworthy) even before he received his prophethood, due to his reputation for honesty and integrity. His followers, too, were expected to uphold these virtues in their interactions with others, as a reflection of their commitment to their faith. In Islam, honesty and trustworthiness are not just moral characteristics but are also seen as acts of worship. By being honest and trustworthy, Muslims demonstrate their obedience to Allah and their commitment to following the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). These virtues are integral to the Islamic concept of "taqwa," or piety, and are considered essential for leading a righteous and fulfilling life.
