The etiquette of supplicating to Allah from "summary" of Sahih Muslim (Volume 8) by Imam Abul-Husain Muslim
In supplicating to Allah, it is crucial for a believer to observe certain etiquette and manners. One should start by praising and glorifying Allah, acknowledging His greatness and majesty. This helps in establishing a connection with the Creator before making any request. One should also send blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a sign of respect and reverence. It is important for a person to be sincere and humble in their supplication, showing complete reliance on Allah for fulfillment of their needs. This demonstrates faith and trust in the mercy and power of Allah. One should avoid being impatient or hasty in expecting a response, as Allah knows best when and how to answer prayers. Another aspect of etiquette in supplication is to raise one's hands while making dua, as this is a sign of humility and submission. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to raise his hands high when making supplications, showing the importance of this gesture. Additionally, one should be mindful of the times when supplications are more likely to be accepted, such as during the last third of the night, between the adhan and iqamah, and in prostration during prayer. These are special moments when the barriers between the believer and Allah are thinner, making it more likely for prayers to be answered. Lastly, it is recommended to make dua in a state of purity, facing the qiblah, and with a heart free from any feelings of resentment or ill will towards others. This helps in creating a conducive environment for one's supplication to be accepted by Allah.- Observing the proper etiquette of supplicating to Allah is essential for a believer seeking to have their prayers answered. By following these guidelines with sincerity and devotion, one can strengthen their connection with Allah and increase the likelihood of their prayers being fulfilled.
