Believers are called to maintain good relations with neighbors from "summary" of Sahih Muslim (Volume 5) by
Believers have been enjoined by the Prophet not to cut ties with their neighbors, to treat them kindly, and to maintain good relations with them. The Prophet emphasized the importance of maintaining good relations with neighbors, to the extent that he thought that a person might be included in the category of the destitute because of the rights of the neighbor. A person asked the Prophet about a particular neighbor, and the Prophet advised him to show kindness to him. This indicates the significance of treating neighbors well, regardless of their behavior towards us. The Prophet illustrated the importance of maintaining good relations with neighbors through various examples. He mentioned the story of the woman who used to harm her neighbors by throwing trash in their way, and he informed his companions that she was being punished in the Hellfire because of her actions. This serves as a warning to believers that mistreating neighbors can have severe consequences. On the other hand, the Prophet also narrated the story of a woman who used to harm her neighbors but eventually stopped after being advised by the Prophet. She was rewarded with Paradise for her change in behavior towards her neighbors. Believers are encouraged to be considerate and compassionate towards their neighbors, regardless of their religion. The Prophet advised his followers to be good to their neighbors, whether they are Muslim or non-Muslim. This shows that kindness towards neighbors is a universal principle in Islam that applies to all individuals. The Prophet also highlighted the importance of helping neighbors in times of need. He mentioned that whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should not cause harm to his neighbor and should help him in his time of need.- Believers are called to maintain good relations with neighbors as part of their faith. The Prophet emphasized the importance of treating neighbors well, even in the face of adversity. By showing kindness and compassion towards neighbors, believers can fulfill their duties as Muslims and earn rewards from Allah.
