Sherman is a rescue donkey from "summary" of Running with Sherman by Christopher McDougall

Sherman arrived at the farm in a cramped trailer, nervous and disoriented. He had been rescued from a neglectful owner who left him stranded in a field with no food or water. His hooves were overgrown, his coat was matted, and his eyes were dull with fear. Despite his traumatic past, Sherman had a gentle spirit and a curious nature. He quickly bonded with the other animals on the farm, finding comfort in their company. The humans who cared for him saw his potential and were determined to help him heal. They worked tirelessly to rehabilitate Sherman, providing him with proper nutrition, medical care, and plenty of love and attention. Slowly but surely, he began to regain his strength and confidence. His hooves were trimmed, his coat was groomed, and his eyes sparkled with newfound trust. As Sherman grew stronger, he started to explore his surroundings and interact with his caretakers. He showed a knack for running and seemed to enjoy the freedom of movement. The humans saw an opportunity to help him reach his full potential and decided to train him for a unique challenge - a burro race. Throughout his training, Sherman faced many obstacles and setbacks. He struggled with self-doubt and fear, unsure if he had what it took to compete. However, with the unwavering support of his team, he pushed through his doubts and embraced his inner strength. On race day, Sherman surprised everyone with his determination and perseverance. Despite being an underdog, he gave it his all and crossed the finish line with pride. His journey from a neglected donkey to a resilient athlete was nothing short of miraculous. Sherman had found a new purpose and a new family who believed in him.
