The day had come when Juliet was to be married to Paris, as her parents had insisted. But her heart belonged to another, to Romeo, whom she had secretly wed. Desperate to escape this fate and be with her true love, Juliet sought the help of Friar Lawrence. The friar concocted a plan to help Juliet reunite with Romeo. He gave her a potion that would make her appear dead. Juliet, trusting in the friar's wisdom, took the potion and fell into a deep sleep that made her seem lifeless to all who saw her.
When Romeo received news of Juliet's death, he was devastated. In his grief, he resolved to take his own life so that he could be with his beloved in death. He rushed to Juliet's side, where he found her seemingly lifeless body.
