Planning is guessing from "summary" of Rework by Jason Fried,David Heinemeier Hansson
When you make a plan, you're making a guess about the future. No one has a crystal ball. No one knows if things will work out the way they hope, and yet planning is treated like some sort of magical formula that will guarantee success. But in reality, it's all just guesswork. You can't know what will happen tomorrow, let alone next month or next year. The problem with planning is that it often leads to paralysis. People get so caught up in trying to predict every little detail that they never actually take action. They're so afraid of making a wrong move that they end up making no move at all. They become so fixated on their plan that they can't see when things aren't going as expected. They don't adapt, they don't pivot, they don't change course. They just keep following the plan blindly, even when it's clearly not working. Planning also gives people a false sense of security. They think that if they have a plan, everything will go smoothly. But the truth is, plans rarely work out the way they're supposed to. There are always unexpected obstacles, unforeseen challenges, and unpredictable events that can throw a wrench into even the most well-thought-out plan. And when things don't go according to plan, people are often left feeling lost and confused, wondering what went wrong. Instead of spending so much time and energy on planning, it's better to focus on doing. Take action, make decisions, and learn from your mistakes. Don't be afraid to take risks, to try new things, to experiment. Embrace uncertainty, embrace change, embrace the unknown. That's where real progress is made, where real innovation happens. It's in the doing, not in the planning. So stop trying to plan your way to success. Stop trying to predict the future. It's all just guesswork anyway. Instead, trust your instincts, trust your gut, and trust that you have what it takes to figure things out as you go along. Because in the end, planning is guessing, and guessing will only get you so far.
