Model the behavior you want to see in your children from "summary" of Positive Discipline A-Z by Jane Nelsen, Ed.D.,Lynn Lott,H. Stephen Glenn

Children learn more from what we do than from what we say. If we want our children to be respectful, responsible, and kind, then we must model those behaviors ourselves. It is not enough to simply tell our children to behave a certain way; we must show them through our own actions. When children see us treating others with respect, taking responsibility for our actions, and practicing kindness, they are more likely to internalize these behaviors and adopt them as their own. Modeling the behavior we want to see in our children requires us to be aware of how we act and react in various situations. We must strive to be mindful of our words, tone of voice, and body language, as our children are constantly observing and learning from us. If we want our children to communicate respectfully, then we must communicate respectfully with them and with others. If we want our children to take responsibility for their mistakes, then we must take responsibility for our own mistakes and apologize when necessary. Consistency is key when it comes to modeling desired behaviors. We cannot expect our children to exhibit certain behaviors if we do not consistently demonstrate those behaviors ourselves. This means practicing what we preach on a daily basis and being a positive role model for our children to emulate. It also means being honest with ourselves about our own behavior and making an effort to improve in areas where we may fall short. Modeling the behavior we want to see in our children is a lifelong process that requires self-awareness, reflection, and a willingness to change. It is not always easy, but the rewards are great. When we lead by example and show our children what it means to be respectful, responsible, and kind, we are setting them up for success in all areas of their lives. By modeling the behaviors we want to see in our children, we are not only teaching them valuable life skills, but also building a strong and loving connection with them based on mutual respect and understanding.
