Materialism restricts freedom from "summary" of Philosophy of Freedom by Rudolf Steiner

Materialism, with its focus solely on the physical world, limits our understanding of reality. By reducing everything to material objects and their interactions, materialism overlooks the inner experiences and motives that drive human behavior. This narrow perspective denies the existence of free will and reduces human beings to mere machines controlled by external forces. When we view ourselves and others as nothing more than the sum of our physical parts, we lose sight of the complexity and richness of the human spirit. Materialism reduces our sense of self to a collection of atoms and molecules, stripping away our individuality and uniqueness. In doing so, it denies us the freedom to shape our own destiny and determine our own path in life. Without a recognition of the spiritual dimensions of existence, we are left adrift in a world devoid of meaning and purpose. Materialism traps us in a deterministic worldview where everything is predetermined by external factors beyond our control. This deterministic view erodes our sense of agency and responsibility, leaving us feeling powerless and insignificant in the face of larger forces. By embracing a materialistic worldview, we confine ourselves to a narrow understanding of reality that limits our potential for growth and self-realization. We are cut off from the deeper truths and higher values that give meaning and significance to our lives. Only by transcending materialism and recognizing the spiritual dimensions of existence can we truly be free to explore our full potential and embrace our true selves.
